Three contributions by ATHENE researchers in the new Data Protection and Data Security

ATHENE data protection experts Dr Annika Selzer and Sarah Diel (LL.M.), both from Fraunhofer SIT, are (co-)authors of three articles published in the December issue of the journal "Datenschutz und Datensicherheit (DuD)". The scientists deal with data protection-compliant data protection metrics in an employment relationship as well as with potentials of anonymous data processing in a smart city environment.

The contributions are:

Privacy metrics in employment - verifying privacy compliant consent.
Agile resource planning based on real-time collection of potentially sensitive information is of high commercial interest to companies in many industries. This paper presents an example of a data protection metric that employers and employees can use to verify whether personal data are processed in a data protection-compliant manner in the context of agile resource planning.

Exploiting the potential of anonymous data processing -- A proposal for smart cities
The use of ICT technologies and the linking of data can optimise the efficiency of a smart city. The aim of linking data can be, for example, to make a city (and the everyday life of its citizens) healthier, safer and - generally speaking - more liveable. The paper presents an exemplary data processing scenario and system that can be used to support the potential of anonymous data processing in smart cities.

Designing a trust system for anonymous data exchange in a smart city environment -- ensuring adequate safeguards.
The paper discusses the implementation of the data protection principles according to Art. 5 GDPR for an exemplary data processing scenario and system that can be used to support the potential of anonymous data processing in smart cities. One focus is on the design of appropriate safeguards to implement the principle of confidentiality and integrity.
