Prof. Iryna Gurevych receives first ATEHNE Distinguished Professorship
Prof. Iryna Gurevych from the TU Darmstadt receives the first ATHENE Distinguished Professorship, recognizing her outstanding contributions to connecting artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The award honors her internationally recognized research in computational linguistics and its innovative application to protect against manipulative language attacks and disinformation.

The professor has led the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at TU Darmstadt since 2007 and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and Academia Europaea. As the first German university professor, she was honored with the prestigious Milner Award from the Royal Society in 2025. Her research develops methodological foundations for early detection of social engineering attacks and narrative manipulation in digital spaces. Within the framework of the ATHENE Distinguished Professorship, Prof. Gurevych will intensify her work on explainability of large language models, secure human-AI cooperation, and automated detection of multimodal disinformation.
