The Weekly Number of the BMBF
92 Procent of the Internets´Infrastructure is vulnerable
Every week the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) presents a number. This week it is the number Zahl 92, which means that 92 Prozent of the internets´infrastructure is vulnerable.
The CRISP Research project „Sichere Internet-Infrastrukturen“ comes to this conclusion. In this flagship project new mechanisms are developed, in order to complicate eavesdropping by manipulating the„Domain Name System“ (DNS).

Almost daily we hear about internet attacks, but how vulnerable is the internet really? Researchers from the Fraunhofer SIT show that at the end of the year 2016 92 Procent of the Internet was vulnerable by manipulating the „Domain Name System“ (DNS).
The DNS helps, that inquiries to web adresses actually reach the proper server. Even more than 68 procent of the operated nets by telekommunication companies and more than 73 procent of the corporate nets are vulnerable - thus nets, which are typically well protected. Whoever is capable of manipulating the DNS , can eavesdrop on e mails and phone calls, perform phishing attacks almost undetected in order to gain access data and passwords. The research group is working on tools for better securing the internet infrastructures and is developing recommendations of action for producers and net providers,in order to react to weakpoints at a short notice.
