Excellentia Scientiae Medaille

The Excellentia Scientiae Medal recognizes outstanding interdisciplinary contributions in the field of privacy and cybersecurity law. The award is presented annually by ATHENE in three categories:

Category 1: Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research Methodology, Teaching and Knowledge Transfer in Privacy and Cyber­security Law (recognises contributions to methodological development, knowledge creation and knowledge transfer; the award may be granted to an individual or a team of up to three persons)

Category 2: Excellence in Interdisciplinary Doctoral Research in Privacy and Cyber­security Law (recognizes outstanding doctoral research; the award may only be granted to an individual researcher)

Category 3: Excellence in Interdisciplinary Privacy and Cyber­security Law Research (recognizes outstanding scholarly publications; the award may be granted to an individual or a team of up to three persons)

Submissions are accepted annually during the submission period from 1 August to 31 October, in German or English. Both self-nominations and third-party nominations are equally welcome.

How to Apply

Please use the official submission form. Only complete submissions, containing all information and attachments required by the submission form, will be included in the pool of nominees considered by the selection committee.

Besides the submission form, please ensure that you only send attachments that we explicitly require and that these attachments only contain publicly available material. We do not consider letters of recommendations, CVs and other further information as part of submissions.

Please submit by e-mail to: einreichung@remove.this.sit.fraunhofer.de within the submission period from 1 August to 31 October, in German or English.

Selection and Selection Committee

The award decision is made by an independent committee composed of representatives from privacy and cybersecurity law academia, privacy and cybersecurity practice, and privacy and cybersecurity education. Committee membership may rotate from year to year. Please note: Individuals who apply for the award or are nominated for it are not eligible to serve on the committee during the relevant award cycle.

The decision of the selection committee is final. No reasons will be provided for individual selection decisions. Legal recourse is excluded.
