CAST Workshop: ID:SMART 2026

ID:SMART Workshop is an annual face-to-face conference that fosters networking and technical updates within the European community of electronic identities, wallets, smart cards and hardware security modules (HSMs). Previously known as Smartcard-Workshop, it has been the reference event for hands-on researchers, standardization group members, decision-makers and experts from companies and government administration since 1991.

The 2026 ID:SMART edition will be held on 18-19 February 2026 in Darmstadt, Germany. Conference language will be English, including all presentations.

CAST-Workshop: hot topic "Crypto-agility"

Crypto-agility is an increasingly important concept in cybersecurity which aims to make cryptographic systems more adaptable and future-proof. At its core, the aim is to develop new systems and to update existing systems in a way that cryptographic changes can be applied seamlessly, and robust security can be offered.  The workshop will examine both the threats to existing cryptographic methods and innovative opportunities for businesses, ranging from automated management tools to flexible update systems for existing infrastructure.

CAST Workshop: Recht und IT-Sicherheit: Digitale Souveränität - Eine Forderung von Datenschutz und Datensicherheit?

This CAST workshop deals with the practical challenges of applying the KI-Verordnung (KIVO) and Datenschutz-Grundverordnung (DSGVO) in a corporate context. The focus will be on the specific requirements for the admissibility of AI systems under data protection law, in particular Large Language Models (LLM), as well as the complex interplay between the two regulations. ATHENE researcher Dr. Oren Halvani will give a presentation on "Security requirements and possibilities in dealing with AI systems".
