Dr.-Ing. Delphine Christin receives awards from GI-ITG-Fachgruppe "Kommunikation und Verteilte Systeme" and from the association Freunde der TU Darmstadt

Dr.-Ing. Delphine Christin has been awarded one of two dissertation prizes 2014 of the  GI-ITG-Fachgruppe "Kommunikation und Verteilte Systeme (KuVs)" (communication and distributed systems) which is backed by GI (German Informatics Society) and VDE ITG (The Information Technology Society). For more than 20 years the KuVs awards the prizes for the best dissertations German-speaking regions in the field of communication and distributed systems. Furthermore she got a prize as one of eleven prize winners for their outstanding scientific achievements by the association "Freunde der Technischen Universität Darmstadt".

In her dissertation "Privacy in Participatory Sensing ? User-Controlled Privacy-Preserving Solutions for Mobile Sensing Applications" Dr.-Ing. Christin deals with data protection in an increasingly cross-linked and sensor captured world in which the user's data streams contain data worth of protection. Simply put, Dr.-Ing. Christin presents an alternative to the "transparent citizen". Following the model of "Privacy-by-Design" she develops mechanisms and realizes them prototypically. These mechanisms enable the user to gain the control over data gathered by mobile and participative sensors (like mobile phones), but without having to forego the positive effects of such environments gathered by sensors.
The work was executed at the Secure Mobile Networking Lab (SEEMOO, http://www.seemoo.de) and under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Hollick.  It was supported by EC-SPRIDE (European Center for Security and Privacy by Design, www.ec-spride.de) as well as LOEWE CASED (Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt, www.cased.de).
Since February 2014 Dr.-Ing. Christin does research as Assistant Professor at University Bonn on Privacy and Security in Ubiquitous Computing.
The prize from the association "Freunde der Technischen Universität Darmstadt" was awarded on May 7, 2014. The official award ceremony of the KuVs prize will take place at the KuVs international conference NetSys 2015 in Cottbus which is organized every two years.
