LOEWE Center "emergenCITY" approved at the TU Darmstadt

As part of the Hessian research funding program LOEWE,  TU Darmstadt can establish the new center "emergenCITY" ("The Emergency Responsive Digital City"). It  will be funded by the end of 2023 with a total of 17.4 million euros.

New colorful barcode

Researchers of Fraunhofer SIT have developed a barcode that consists of arbitrary colors and can assume any shape. The colored JAB code has a much higher data density compared to classical black and white bar and matrix codes. Therefore it can deposit much more information on the same surface, which leads to more security against counterfeiting.

Keeping health data under lock and key

CRISP researchers from the TU Darmstadt, who work together in the CROSSING Collaborative Research Center of the Deutschen Forschungs­gemeinschaft (DFG), have developed a solution that will ensure decades of safe storage for sensitive health data in a joint project with Japanese and Canadian partners. An initial prototype was presented during a recent conference in Beijing, China. The system will go into trial operation in Japan in the coming weeks.

Dangerous Security Holes in Tracker Apps

Tracker apps provide a means for legitimate personal tracking, i.e. for parents to locate their children. Many tracker apps, however, contain serious security vulnerabilities. CRISP-researchers of Fraunhofer SIT have analyzed popular tracker apps available in the Google Play Store – the result: not even one of them was secure; all had serious security flaws. Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to generate movement profiles, to read chats and text messages, and to view pictures.

Closing event of the 1. German-Israeli Partnership-Accelerators

With the presentation of new Cyber­security developments the first run of the Hessian-Israeli Partnership-Accelerator (HIPA) closed at the 9th, January. At the closing event at the Hessischen Landesvertretung in Berlin the participating project teams presented their new possible solutions for the quality control of Cloud-services, for the security of Internet infrastructures as well as for the resistance against spam attacks and Denial-of-Service attacks against e-mail accounts. HIPA is the first and only German-Israeli Accelerator with the main emphasis on Cyber­security.
