New Edition: Standard Reference Work on IT in Peace and Security Research Released
Rapid technological developments in information technology and artificial intelligence are increasingly shaping the international peace and security architecture. The newly published standard work 'Information Technology for Peace and Security' provides a comprehensive analysis of these developments. The second edition, edited by ATHENE researcher Prof. Christian Reuter and his research team at the Technical University of Darmstadt, has been thoroughly revised and expanded. It examines the role of modern technologies - especially information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI) - in current conflicts, such as the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Special attention is given to the growing importance of ICT infrastructures and social media in crisis areas.

ATHENE launches simulated court hearings on activities in cybersecurity research
In order to give cybersecurity researchers greater legal certainty in their research work, ATHENE legal scholars have launched a series of simulated court cases in which fictional but realistic cases from cybersecurity research are heard. The judgments of the court simulations are intended to serve as a guide for IT security research.

Success for Digital Hub for Cybersecurity

ATHENE scientist Prof. Iryna Gurevych receives prestigious ‘Milner Award’ from the Royal Society
The first female scientist in Germany and the first female university professor to receive the prestigious ‘Milner Award’ from the British Royal Society is Prof Iryna Gurevych from TU Darmstadt. She is being honoured for her significant contributions to automatic language processing and artificial intelligence, which ‘combine a deep understanding of human language and cognitive abilities with the latest paradigms of machine learning’, as the world's oldest independent scientific academy announced in London.

ATHENE researcher Prof. Carsten Binnig has been awarded a LOEWE Top Professorship at the TU Darmstadt. The state of Hesse is supporting the research project "Reasonable Artificial Intelligence (RAI)" as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.
