ATHENE is expanding its expertise at the intersection of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence
Prof.Adi Akavia took up an ATHENE professorship in the Department of Computer Science at TU Darmstadt, also becoming head of department at the Fraunhofer SIT. This appointment strengthens ATHENE's position as a leading research centre for applied cybersecurity in Germany.

Prof. Akavia is one of the world's leading experts in machine learning security, combining theoretical cryptography with practical AI applications. Her research addresses key challenges of digitalisation: How can confidentiality, data protection and data sovereignty be ensured in AI-supported processes? The fields of application for her work range from medicine to bioinformatics. She completed her scientific training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under Turing Award winner Prof. Shafi Goldwasser, and at Princeton University under another Turing Award winner, Prof. Avi Wigderson. She was most recently a professor at the University of Haifa and head of the biometrics research department at the Haifa Center for Cyber Law & Policy.
