ATHENE and IC3 Establish Transatlantic Research Cooperation on Cybersecurity
Goethe University Frankfurt, together with the Initiative for CryptoCurrencies and Contracts (IC3) at Cornell Tech, has signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a comprehensive research cooperation within the framework of ATHENE. The agreement creates institutional links between Europe's largest cybersecurity research center and North America's leading blockchain research consortium at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute.

The collaboration addresses central research fields in applied cybersecurity: cryptography and trusted hardware, AI safety, privacy-enhancing technologies, as well as Web3 infrastructure development and its integration with existing systems. Furthermore, the cooperation encompasses the development of governance frameworks for responsible technology design and coordinated approaches to European and international cybersecurity standards. Prof. Michael Waidner, CEO of ATHENE, emphasizes: "This partnership unites complementary strengths in research, application, and policy expertise, aiming to deliver practical solutions for current and future cyber threats." The first joint research activities will start in early 2026.
