CAST Award 2024

Yesterday, the CAST IT Security Award was presented for the 24th time in Darmstadt. Seven entrants made it to the final round, including four students who were supervised by research groups led by ATHENE scientists Prof. Marc Fischlin and Prof. Matthias Hollick.

In the master's thesis category, Nils Rollshausen, supervised by Prof. Matthias Holllick, took second place with his thesis “WatchWitch: Investigating Apple Watch Interoperability and Security.” The thesis “On Session Identifiers for Oblivious Pseudorandom Functions in the Universal Composability Model” by Julius Hardt, supervised by Prof. Marc Fischlin, took third place.

In the bachelor's thesis category, Noreen Mehler, supervised by Prof. Matthias Hollick, was awarded third place for her thesis “Towards Standardized Testing of Sensor Detection Methods.”

The prize money amounts to €1,000 for first place, €500 for second place, and €300 for third place. In addition, all finalists receive free participation in the CAST workshops in 2025.
