Finalists ATHENE UP24@it-sa: Interview with RedMimicry
RedMimicry is one of the five finalists for the ATHENE UP24@it-sa Award
The startup RedMimicry is one of the five finalists in the race for this year's ATHENE Startup Award UP24@it-sa. As part of our coverage, we met with the company, which offers a solution for realistic emulation of cyberattacks, for an interview.

Your startup in one sentence?
RedMimicry is software for realistic emulation of cyber attacks, enabling companies to test their defenses under real conditions.
How did your business idea come About?
As incident responders and consultants, Alexander and I have spent years working with companies that fell victim to cyberattacks despite significant investments. The teams lacked practice and the opportunity to test their defenses against realistic scenarios. We want to close this gap with RedMimicry.
How big is your team, who is in it, and how did you find each other?
There are currently two of us, and we know each other from a previous employer.
Who benefits from your product/solution and why?
We currently serve two customer groups: firstly, companies that invest in their cybersecurity and want to test their defenses in realistic scenarios against a potential attack. We also have consulting partners who offer realistic training courses with RedMimicry and provide targeted advice to smaller customers.
What are your next steps?
We are currently focusing on making additional scenarios available and plan to expand the team in 2025. Security service providers have also expressed interest in integrating RedMimicry into their offerings.
Why are you convinced that you will be successful?
We know that RedMimicry delivers higher quality results with significantly less effort compared to other solutions. Our approach of emulating real malware in detail is unique and in demand on the market.
What have been your biggest successes and hurdles/low points so far?
In just one year, we have managed to convince partners to develop services with and around RedMimicry. The inquiries we have received from venture capitalists who are keen to invest in our idea have also given our confidence a boost.
In Germany, however, as a self-financed startup that is not a spin-off from a company or university, we fall through the cracks of most funding programs. The excessive bureaucracy for small businesses has also been very stressful for us.
Why did you apply for the ATHENE Startup Award UP24@it-sa?
It was clear to us that we wanted a booth at it-sa 2024 to present our product to a wide audience. Therefore, it made sense for us to also apply for the ATHENE Startup Award UP24@it-sa.
