The new ATHENE Pixi books offer a glimpse into the daily lives of female researchers

31/08/2026

Visible role models often play a key part in influencing young people's decision to pursue a degree or career in STEM subjects. With its two new Pixi Knowledge books, ATHENA is providing exactly the kind of role models needed in cybersecurity research.

ATHENE researchers developed the content for the books and provided guidance, while Carlsen Verlag handled the publication. The books follow two girls, aged 8 to 11, who are completing an internship and getting to observe the work of a cybersecurity researcher and an IT law researcher. Both stories offer insights into the day-to-day life of researchers and their participation in conferences, while also demonstrating how to balance science and family life. Teachers can order a classroom set of the books — typically consisting of 30 copies — free of charge after completing a short online survey. The set comes with teaching materials for four 90-minute lessons focused on promoting STEM education for girls in Years 3 and 4.
