Biography

Lucas Schmitz has been a member of the Hessian State Parliament since January, serving as the spokesperson for science and the arts for the CDU parliamentary group.

He joined the CDU in 2013, beginning his political career. Since 2015, he has been deputy chairman of the CDU Buseck, and since 2017, he has been a member of the Giessen district council. In 2020, he was elected as an assessor to the Giessen district executive committee.

He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in 2016. He then studied law at Justus Liebig University Giessen, passing his first state examination in 2021. From March 2021 to August 2022, he worked as a research assistant at Goodwin Procter in Frankfurt am Main. In 2022, he earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the USA. From June 2022 to January 2023, he was a research assistant at Linklaters LLP in Frankfurt am Main. From 2023 to 2025, he completed his legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Limburg an der Lahn, graduating with the second state examination in law.
