Cybernation Germany

Promoting cyber security, innovation and research transfer in Germany

ATHENE CEO Prof. Michael Waidner and ATHENE Board Member Prof. Haya Schulmann highlighted "Wie Deutschland zur Cybernation wird" in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) on April 20, 2023. Applied research could act as a driver of innovation in Germany in the same way as the military and the start-up culture in Israel, but would require targeted incentive systems and support structures. A successful transformation into a "cybernation Germany" therefore requires fundamental changes in technology transfer that systematically promote and accelerate both spin-offs and transfers to established companies.

This first contribution to the topic of cybernation led to numerous interesting discussions with colleagues, business, politics and authorities. The theses and recommendations for action met with great approval, especially from industry and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), which has since adopted the idea of Cybernation Germany and is now consistently pursuing and supporting it.
