Eleven innovative cybersecurity startups in next round of accelerator program
The accelerator program "SpeedUpSecure" promotes startups with innovative solutions in the field of cybersecurity. Eleven startups qualified for the program this year and will undergo a five-month intensive and targeted training program starting in early May. They will have access to a strong network of experts from business and research, who will be involved in the accelerator as mentors, jurors, coaches or with keynote speeches.

ChatGPT or human author?
ATHENE researchers at Fraunhofer SIT are researching ways to help recognize texts created with ChatGPT. Among other things, the text forensics experts are working with a self-developed method for authorship verification, COAV: Originally, it was used to detect plagiarism in scientific papers, for example. Since COAV compares texts on a stylistic basis, this method can also be used to identify a specific "author," namely ChatGPT. This is used to calculate the distances between texts using similarities of text modules and typical consecutive letter strings: Is the text closer to GPT or closer to a human?

Fraunhofer SIT opens new location in Münster
Fraunhofer SIT's research activities are being expanded to include another core topic, cybersecurity in medicine. Under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Schinzel, a new research department is being established for this purpose at the new Münster location in Westphalia. Prof. Schinzel has held a professorship at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Münster University of Applied Sciences since 2013, and is considered one of the leading experts on applied cryptography, cybersecurity and the security of medical information technology.

AIGIS-Lab
ATHENE scientist Prof. Haya Shulman is the coordinator of the "Real Lab for Modern Cybersecurity in Research Institutions" (AIGIS) project, in which two research institutions are being used as examples to demonstrate what modern cybersecurity architecture can look like. To this end, the researchers are developing a requirements analysis for the construction of an exemplary zero-trust architecture and its evaluation in a real laboratory. To this end, representative substructures in the form of networks, central infrastructures and various institutes will first be selected in both research institutions and analyzed with regard to their requirements. Based on this, the researchers will develop an appropriate, modern cybersecurity architecture.

Using patient data securely
Digitization in healthcare offers the opportunity for better patient care. With the push by the German Federal Ministry of Health to make electronic patient records (ePA) mandatory for everyone from the end of 2024, the discussion about the security of sensitive health data is gaining new momentum. Many patients are concerned that their data could fall into the wrong hands. In ATHENE, scientists at Fraunhofer IGD are pursuing the goal of advancing digitization in healthcare by improving safeguards for data use. Great success for ATHENE scientist Prof. Christoph Busch and his team from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences: The biometrics specialists were awarded 2nd place for their "Morphing Attack Detection" software at the 9. Deutschen IT-Sicherheitspreis. The prize is endowed with 40,000 EUR.
